There were no surprises in the 3-year-old colt division as the finalists for the Eclipse Awards were announced on Jan 5. Animal Kingdom, the son of Leroidesanimaux who won the Kentucky Derby and Spiral Stakes and just missed in the Preakness, is one of the three finalists for the award which was voted on by the NTRA, Daily Racing Form and National Turf Writers and Broadcasters. There were 248 ballots cast out of a possible 267. The other finalists are Caleb's Posse and Shackleford.

Team Valor, headed by Barry Irwin and owner of Animal Kingdom, was also named a finalist in the Owners' category.

The winners will be announced at the 41st Annual Eclipse Awards dinner to be held on Jan. 16 at the Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.
