Animal Kingdom's anxiously-awaited return to the races has been switched from a Feb. 25 race at Tampa Bay Downs to Gulfstream Park on Feb. 18. Trainer Graham Motion made the change when Gulfstream Park officials wrote a race to fit the 4-year-old son of Leroidesanimaux, which will go off as the fifth on Saturday.
The Kentucky Derby winner will face five others in a $60,000 allowance optional claimer at a mile and a sixteenth on the grass. John Velazquez will ride. Animal Kingdom had his final tuneup for the race on Feb. 14 at Palm Meadows Training Center. The team Valor colt breezed six furlongs over the turf course in 1:15.80.
