Cocoa Beach (Chi), a dual champion by Doneraile Court, made her U.S. debut a successful one on August 29th at Saratoga, easily winning the $91,950 Love Sign Stakes to give the brilliant 4-year-old filly stakes wins on three different continents.
The Chilean-bred was a champion in her native country as a 3-year-old after winning a trio of Group 3 stakes by a combined 19 ¼ lengths before being privately purchased by Sheikh Mohammed and sent to Dubai. It was there where Cocoa Beach became a household name, dominating in back-to-back runs in the $250,000 UAE 1,000 Guineas and $250,000 UAE Oaks earlier this year at Nad al Sheba Race Course. She would lay claim to her second championship honor as the best filly in Dubai.
Cocoa Beach’s voyage has taken her to America where the early results are the same. Her win in the Love Sign was nothing more than a public workout, as she took over at will in mid-stretch and cruised home in hand under jockey Ramon Dominguez to win by five. The final time was 1:51.50 for the 1 1/8 miles over a fast local main track, and the result was her seventh victory from nine starts. Racing under the famed royal blue silks of Godolphin, Cocoa Beach moved her career earnings to $591,141. She is conditioned by the stable’s top trainer Saeed bin Suroor.
