Good Lord, who finished third in the six-furlong Pelican Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs last year, went one better under Willie Martinez in the $60,000 race on Jan. 7. Despite being unseated before the break, Martinez climbed back aboard and piloted the 5-year-old Greatness gelding to a runner-up finish behind Action Andy, who was clocked in a speedy 1:09.58.
It was the third time Good Lord has been stakes-placed for owners Doug Shank and Stan Young, and the $12,000 check boosted his earnings to $185,932 on a record of 4-7-9 in 35 starts. The gritty Florida-bred has campaigned at seven tracks.
