Mulata, who has spent her entire 23-race career campaigning in Chicago, overcame a wide trip over the Hawthorne turf course on Nov. 16 and scored a two-length victory with Julio Felix aboard.
Felix sent the Illinois-bred daughter of Burning Roma after the leaders on the far turn in the one-mile race and the 4-year-old filly inhaled the leaders with a strong stretch run, making up eight lengths from the half-mile pole to the wire. Mulata, the 8/5 favorite, collected $11,760 for her fourth career victory and increased her earnings to $88,633.
