From Tampa Bay Downs to Santa Anita, a pair of maiden fillies by champion Leroidesanimaux (Brz) scored the first victories of their careers in maiden special weight races on Feb. 21.

At Tampa, the 3-year-old filly Vee got her win going 1 1/8 miles on the turf course in a maiden special weight race. She stalked the leaders for the first mile before finishing with a rush, getting the final furlong in a shade under :12 seconds. Vee now sports a record of 1-0-1 from three starts for owners Amerman Racing Stables LLC. The chestnut filly was bred in Kentucky by the owners. Vee is out of the German Group 3-winning mare Vallera.

At Santa Anita, fellow 3-year-old filly Brazilian Charm won a 6 1/2-furlong maiden special weight race over the synthetic surface. Like Vee, Brazilian Charm was always close to the pace, getting up to win by a length under jockey Rafael Bejarano. The winner's share of the purse earned $26,400 for owners Al & Sandee Kirkwood. Trained by Kathy Walsh, Brazilian Charm is 1-0-1 in two lifetime starts. The filly was bred in Kentucky by Veranda Farms Inc.

Leroidesanimaux ranks among the leading second-crop sires in North America in average earnings per starter with $34,818 already through Feb. 21. That ranks him third just under Pollard's Vision ($36,022), and he ranks ahead of such stallions in his class as Roman Ruler, Kitten's Joy, Wildcat Heir, Afleet Alex, Ghostzapper, etc.
