In what turned into a one-horse race, Fortunia, a 3-year-old daughter of Leroidesanimaux, romped home by 4 ¾ lengths in a maiden special weight race at Sam Houston on Mar. 18.
The Daily Racing Form chart comments couldn't have been more glowing; “drew off while still under a hold...and proved much the best with complete ease”. The filly was making just her second lifetime start and her first going around two turns.
At one point in the race, she was up some 10 lengths without being urged in the least, but was geared down when it was obvious she wasn't going to be threatened. She is trained by Marilyn Asmussen and owned by her breeder Janeen Oliver.
Champion and millionaire Leroidesanimaux's first crop are 3-year-olds of 2010. He has already had six individual winners for the year. He ranked 11th on the first-crop sire list of 2009.
