The superbly-named Max the Knife won for the fifth time in a 22-race career with a one-length victory racing a mile and 70 yards at Fair Grounds on Jan. 27. The 5-year-old gelding came from seventh place early, knifed between horses on the turn and closed strongly to get up in 1:43.89. The Kentucky-bred gelding by Unforgettable Max increased his earnings to $70,190.
