After battling outside front-running Despite the Odds through fractions of :22.38, :45.21 and :57.22, Immortal Eyes took the lead into the stretch of the Oct. 22 Frank J. DeFrancis Memorial Dash, but was unable to hold off the late charge of Candyman in the shadow of the wire, succumbing to the 9/5 favorite by half a length. The $150,000 premier sprint at Laurel Park, for many years a Gr. I, went in 1:09.43.
Since January, Immortal Eyes has compiled a record of 5-2-0 in seven starts, including four stakes victories, with earnings of $229,215. In his 27-race career, during which he is an outstanding 9-7-3, the 6-year-old son of Greatness has earned $425,422. He picked up $30,000 for the DeFrancis second, for which he was given a 118 Equibase Speed Figure.
