Rachel the Model broke her maiden for Midwest Thoroughbreds and top trainer Jamie Ness with a monster late run racing 5 1/2 furlongs at Penn National on Jan. 21. The 3-year-old filly by Burning Roma scored in her third try for Midwest, which missed by six votes of being named the country's leading owner in the Eclipse Award balloting last week.

Rachel the Model, bred in Pennsylvania, rallied from ninth place as the 2-1 favorite and was up by a neck at the wire, picking up five lengths from the eighth pole home.
