Yearling season has arrived and that means the highly-anticipated first crops from young Stonewall Farm Stallions’ A. P. Warrior, Da Stoops, It’s No Joke, and Strong Contender have hit the sales market. The annual Fasig-Tipton July Yearling Sale ended its two-day event in Lexington July 20-21 and the first yearlings by those Stonewall Stallions were well-represented.
A. P. Warrior made the biggest splash with three of his first yearlings selling, including a $115,000 colt on Day 1. Selling as Hip No. 50, the striking bay colt was signed for by Richard O’Gorman Bloodstock. Eaton Sales was the consignor.
The colt also caught the eye of top buyer John Ferguson, who purchases on behalf of Darley and Godolphin stables. “We were looking through the horses here and we took a liking to him,” said Ferguson in reference to the A. P. Warrior yearling. “He was a very athletic and correct horse that just took our eye.”
Da Stoops had one offering at F-T July, a colt selling as Hip No. 292 on Day 2. The handsome bay was purchased by Leprechaun Racing, Agent for $72,000 from the consignment of Woods Edge Farm.
It’s No Joke had two of his first yearlings in the sale and both received solid action in the bidding. Hip No. 56, a colt from the consignment of Select Sales Agent, brought $40,000 from buyer Ricky Leppala, while Hip No. 37, a colt consigned by Taylor Made, reached $42,000 in the ring but was not sold.
