Batalha, a half-sister to Strong Contender, became stakes-placed at Santa Anita in just her third career start on Dec. 30. The 2-year-old filly by Smart Strike finished second in the $81,000 Blue Norther Stakes under Chantal Sutherland, collecting $16,200.

Batalha, who had broken her maiden at Hollywood Park in her previous start on Nov. 19, took the lead in the stretch in the one-mile turf race, but couldn't hold off 9/5 favorite Lady of Shamrock, who was clocked in 1:34.24 with Garrett Gomez. Batalha has earned $45,900 in her three starts.
