A day after 2-year-old filly Chanel Number Mine gave Value Plus his eighth first-crop winner, Valuable Lady – another debutante – gave the leading freshman sire winner No. 9 with an impressive first-out, front-running victory in a $58,000 maiden special weight heat on August 30th at Saratoga.
Valuable Lady popped the gates on top and flashed good early speed before shaking clear and drawing off in the stretch of the 5 ½-furlong race. The final time was 1:05.34 over a ‘good’ local dirt track.
Out of the D’Hallevant mare Lady Corona, the speedy gray filly is trained by Gary Contessa for Sanford Robbins LLC, Dale Cohen and Winning Move Stable, which acquired her for $50,000 earlier this year at an OBS Two-Year-Olds in Training sale.
On Saturday, Value Plus struck with another maiden special weight winner when Chanel Number Mine romped by 6 ¼ lengths at Louisiana Downs.
To date, Value Plus ranks as a Top 10 Freshman Sire with his nine winners and progeny earnings approaching a quarter of a million dollars.
