Trainer John Kimmel showed his confidence in Babai Baby when he assigned the 2-year-old filly to make her career debut against boys in a $43,000 maiden special weight on July 19th at Belmont Park. The speedy daughter of Value Plus validated her trainer’s confidence, flashing quality speed and outrunning seven colts and geldings in the six-furlong heat to break her maiden impressively at first asking.
Under Rajiv Maragh, the gray filly popped out of the gates on top and carved out fractions of 22.73, 45.81 and 57.72 before finishing up in 1:10.23 over a fast local main track. She became the fifth winner from the first crop of Value Plus, who moved into the top 10 on the Freshman Sires List.
Babai Baby is a product of the Stonewall Farm breeding program and was bred in conjunction with Liberation Farm. Stonewall Farm owns the filly by the brilliant son of Unbridled's Song out of the Cure the Blues mare Babai Danzig. She earned $25,800 for the win.
