Rime Ice, a 3-year-old filly by Value Plus, broke her maiden in the Apr. 20 feature at Hawthorne Racecourse. A gray or roan like her sire, Rime Ice took the six-furlong, maiden special weight by a half-length.
After stumbling at the start, Rime Ice quickly gathered herself and moved into third position, a spot she held until mid-stretch, when she made her move to get the lead inside the sixteenth pole. Rime Ice earned $15,000 for the victory.
Value Plus currently ranks tenth on the 2010 North American second-crop sire list. His leading earner on the year is the top 3-year-old filly All Due Respect, runner-up in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks.
