Trainer Julio Cartagena had no problem sending Huff'n Hughes back on just seven days rest, and the gelding edged closer to the $100,000 mark in career earnings at Delaware Park on Nov. 2. The son of Value Plus had won previously on Oct. 26, and came right back to make it two straight, scoring by three-quarters of a length while racing six furlongs in a snappy 1:10.20.
Huff'n Hughes sat back in the pack early, made a three-wide move on the turn, was forced five wide into the stretch and still had plenty of gas left to run down 1/2 favorite Hot Escapade in the final sixteenth. The 4-year-old Florida-bred has won seven of 23 starts and his earnings soared to $90,427.
