The shortest distance from the gate to the finish line is a straight line, and that's exactly what jockey Mike Straight did with Whiskey Vixen in a mile race at Turfway Park on Jan. 8. Straight shot the 4-year-old Kentucky-bred daughter of Value Plus to the front at the break and she never looked back, opening up an eight-length lead in the stretch, and widening it to 13 1/2 at the wire for her first career victory.
