LEROIDESANIMAUX Pedigree Analysis by Alan Porter
Alan Porter - "LEROIDESANIMAUX, a brilliant turf miler, won eight consecutive races, six of them graded stakes between 61/2 and 81/2 furlongs including the Frank E. Kilroe Mile (G1), Atto Mile (G1) and Citation Handicap (G1). A grandson of Blushing Groom, Leroidesanimaux, is by classic performer Candy Stripes. Sire of more than 50 stakes winners, Candy Stripes has been represented by other U.S. grade one winners Invasor and Different, Canadian Champion Sweetest Thing, and U.S. graded scorers Lundy’s Liability and Victory Stripes. A half-brother to grade one winner Uapybo, Leroidesanimaux is out of a half-sister to Hasili the dam of Champions Dansili (now one of Europe’s leading young sires), Banks Hill and Intercontinental, and grade one winners Heat Haze and Cacique. This is also the female line of Giant’s Causeway.
Leroidesanimaux is free of Northern Dancer and he looks likely to cross well with mares from that line. Particularly good should be mares descending from Nijinsky II (who works exceptionally well with Blushing Groom), Danzig (grandsire of the tribe of stars out of Hasili), Sadler’s Wells, Nureyev, Storm Cat and Lyphard.
Leroidesanimaux’s third dam, juvenile Champion and group one winner Sookera, is by Roberto. The Blushing Groom/Roberto cross has been a very good one, so it could pay to double that strain by bringing in Roberto line mares. Easily found Roberto sources include Lear Fan and Silver Hawk (both broodmare sires of Candy Stripes stakes winners), Dynaformer, Darby Creek Road, Sunshine Forever, Kris S. and Red Ransom.
Leroidesanimaux is out of a half-sister to the dam of Champion English Two-Year-Old Three Valleys, who is by Diesis. Diesis is by Sharpen Up, and the Blushing Groom cross with Sharpen Up line mares has been a very successful one.
Candy Stripes is sire of graded stakes winners out of mares by Geiger Counter and Woodman both sons of Mr. Prospector. Leroidesanimaux might also suit the Mr. Prospector strain via Gulch and his son Thunder Gulch.
The dam of Woodman is a sister to the dam of Private Account, and Candy Stripes has a U.S. stakes winner out of a mare by Corporate Report, a son of Private Account. Buckpasser appears as the broodmare sire of both Woodman and Private Account. Candy Stripes has a U.S. stakes winner out of Buckpasser line mare (by Groovy).
Candy Stripes is sire of several stakes winners out of Caro line mares. Caro is a Nasrullah line horse, and Candy Stripes has stakes winners out of mares descending from Nasrullah through Bold Ruler/Bold Bidder and Never Bend."
“The best family in the world.”
Peter Doyle
(Leroidesanimaux’ half-brother brought $2.6 million at Keeneland Sept 2006)
In 8 Consecutive Wins:
- 6 Graded Stakes
- 3 Grade 1s
- 2 Course Records
“He’s got to rank up there with the better turf horses I’ve ever trained, because he never gets beat.”
