VALUE PLUS Pedigree Analysis by Alan Porter

Alan Porter - "VALUE PLUS is a tremendous natural talent. He set a new track record at Gulfstream Park when defeating grade one winner Gygistar for the Artax Handicap, and he was also runner-up in the Florida Derby (G1) and Futurity Stakes (G1).

By Unbridled’s Song, also responsible for first crop sire sensation Songandaprayer, Value Plus is half-brother to graded stakes winning two-year-old Roll Hennessy Roll, and to multiple stakes winner Majorbigtimesheet. His dam is six time stakes winner, Roll Over Baby.

Value Plus is half-brother to a graded stakes winner by Hennessy, a son of Storm Cat (from the Northern Dancer line), and Unbridled’s Song and Unbridled have also done well when crossed with Storm Cat line mares. Sons of Storm Cat which are themselves out of mares by Mr. Prospector – who is in the male line of Value Plus – might be particularly interesting, and they include Tale of the Cat, Storm Creek and Storm Boot. Storm Cat’s son, Forest Wildcat, is out of a mare by a close genetic relative to Mr. Prospector, and he has crossed very well over mares from the Fappiano line.

Unbridled’s Song has worked well with Northern Dancer in general. In addition to Storm Cat, there are Unbridled’s Song stakes winners descending from Northern Dancer through Deputy Minister (with Silver Deputy looking potentially particularly interesting), Nijinsky II, Danzig, Nureyev, Dixieland Band, The Minstrel, Magesterial and Danzatore.

Unbridled’s Song and his sire, Unbridled, have an extremely strong affinity with In Reality line mares. This cross has already produced four stakes winners for Unbridled’s Song, including grade one winners Splendid Blended and Unbridled Elaine. Unbridled’s Song has worked with mares from the Valid Appeal and Relaunch branches of the In Reality line, and Unbridled Elaine is out of a mare by Taylor’s Falls.

Unbridled’s Song has sired three stakes winners out of Blushing Groom line mares, out of daughters of Rahy, and Mt. Livermore and his son, Housebuster. Blushing Groom is a Nasrullah line horse, and other branches of Nasrullah have done well with Unbridled and Unbridled’s Song. Unbridled sired Unbridled’s Song and classic winner Red Bullet out of mares by Caro; Unbridled’s Song has a 2006 graded stakes winner out of a mare by Caro’s son, Dr. Carter; and Unbridled’s Song’s son, Songandaprayer, has a first crop graded stakes winner out of a mare by With Approval a son of Caro. Both Unbridled’s Song and Songandaprayer have stakes winners out of Never Bend line mares, and Unbridled’s Song has a stakes winner out of a mare by Olympio (by Naskra). From the male line descending from Nasrullah’s three-parts-brother Royal Charger, to Turn-to, Unbridled’s Song has stakes winners out of mares by Drone, Bates Motel (by Sir Ivor) and Lord Avie, who are all from the Sir Gaylord branch of this line. He also has a stakes winner out of a mare by Turn-to’s grandson, Halo.

Value Plus is a male line descendent of Raise a Native, through Mr. Prospector. Mr. Prospector will be in the fifth generation of Value Plus’s offspring, so crossing him back over Mr. Prospector mares is possible. Unbridled’s Song has sired graded stakes winner Forest Music out of a mare by Gone West. Unbridled’s Song also has stakes winners out of mares descending from Raise a Native through Majestic Prince and Exclusive Native. Other broodmare sire lines which have supplied Unbridled’s Song stakes winners are Tom Fool, via Copelan and Prince John, via Silent Screen and Hold Your Peace."

There are two million-dollar sons of Unbridled’s Song in Kentucky:
